The distillery was founded in 1872 by Hombo Shuzo Ltd. and produced the Japanese liquor "Shoshu" for a long time. It was not until 1985 that the Shinshu Mars Distillery joined the company and, with moderate success, produced the first whiskies and brandies for 7 years.
In 2011, the company dared to restart whisky production and opened another distillery, the Tsunuki Distillery, in 2016. Since then, much more successful whiskies have been produced, so much so that the Hombo Shuzo Company was even named “Craft Producer of the Year” in 2017.
