The name means "valley of the wild goose". The distillery was founded in 1825. Despite its proximity to the South Esk River, water from Loch Lee is used for production. When Glencadam changed hands in 1954 with Hiram Walker, the whisky was mainly used for blends under the "Ballantines" brand. The distillery was inactive from September 2000 until it was sold to Angus Dundee Plc. in May 2003. After bottling only the 15-year-old single malt under its own name in recent years and selling some to independent bottlers, a complete line of its own has been marketed under the name Glencadam since 2009. The malt is unpeated and is purchased from a large malthouse. The distillery only has one wash still and one spirit still, each with a capacity of 14,000 liters. Most of the new make is matured in ex-bourbon barrels in one of the 11 bonded warehouses. The annual capacity of the distillery is 1.4 million liters. Glencadam does not have a visitor centre.
