Scapegrace Single Malt from New Zealand
The Scapegrace Distillery is located exactly at the coordinates 45.0194° S, 169.2153° E, on the 45th parallel. The remote location with epic views of Mount Pisa and Lake Dunstan in the south of New Zealand is no coincidence. On the line between the equator and the South Pole, the country's largest distillery project benefits from intense summers and ice-cold winters - conditions that are essential for the special maturation of the single malt.
Local barley from South Canterbury, fresh glacier water from the Southern Alps, Manuka wood for drying smoked malt: Scapegrace lives a natural "grain-to-glass" philosophy. The result? Strong, unadulterated New World single malt whiskies with a profile similar to Highland malts.
One of the first bottlings of the core range is Scapegrace Anthem. The single malt is distilled from barley malt that was dried over the complex smoke of the native Manuka tree, which smells of eucalyptus, menthol and forest floor. It develops notes of spiced walnuts, cider apple and sweet hay.
Scapegrace Vanguard is a little sweeter, with flavours of poached pears, vanilla pudding and biscuits made from oat flakes and coconut flakes.
Scapegrace Fortitude made from Manuka smoked malt and Scapegrace Fortuna are also two examples of the discontinued limited editions.
Fortitude is for those who prefer spicy, fruity malt whiskies, while Fortuna combines buttery biscuits with crunchy green apples and roasted chestnuts.
