Savanna Le Must Traditional Rum
Title
67.22 CHF
Volume: 0.7 liters | Alcohol content: 45% | Non-chill-filtered | No coloring
Palate: Intense ripe fruit and small, soft fruits such as wild strawberries and sour cherries. Notes of milk chocolate ganache and toasted aromas add complexity towards the finish.
At the heart of Savanna is high-quality Rhum Agricole, Rhum Traditionnel, and Grand Arôme rum, which the distillery is one of only a few in the world to produce. This full-bodied molasses rum undergoes extensive fermentation and develops a high ester content, similar to typical Jamaican rums. Unusually for distilleries in the French overseas departments, Savanna processes both fresh sugarcane juice and molasses in column and pot stills – and only between July and November.
Free from any additives and not chill-filtered, Savanna rums reveal multifaceted, authentic flavors that reflect the wild beauty of the island.
In the case of Savanna 5 yo: elegant notes of exotic fruits, almonds, and pastries. The distillery's signature liquid matured in French oak cognac casks, just like Savanna Le Must. The full-bodied, fruity blend of traditional and Grand Arôme rums matures for up to nine years in tropical conditions—and was named Rum of the Year at Meininger's International Spirits Award ISW 2020.
Tasting Notes
Nose: A basket full of fruits and sweets! Robust, fruity, and fresh with banana, pear, and white peach. Sweet notes invite you to savor them. As you let it breathe, the nose becomes more complex, with honey and dried fruits like raisins, dates, and apricots. This is joined by a luscious hint of freshly baked bread and butter with woody undertones.Palate: Intense ripe fruit and small, soft fruits such as wild strawberries and sour cherries. Notes of milk chocolate ganache and toasted aromas add complexity towards the finish.
Description
The Savanna distillery is located on the shores of the Indian Ocean, at the foot of the Piton de la Fournaise volcano. Handcrafted rum has been produced here since the 19th century, in the French overseas department and sugarcane paradise of La Réunion. However, the distillery and its exquisite bottlings as we know them today trace their origins to Émile Hugot. Internationally known as "Monsieur Sucre," he led Savanna into the future with his extensive expertise in sugar from the 1950s onward. At the heart of Savanna is high-quality Rhum Agricole, Rhum Traditionnel, and Grand Arôme rum, which the distillery is one of only a few in the world to produce.
