MARS Tsunuki 2023
Volume: 0.7 liters | Alcohol content: 50% | Non-chill-filtered | No coloring
Tasting Notes
Nose: Initially, sweet and citrusy notes of Japanese medlar, reminiscent of jam, follow. As with the Tsunuki 2022 Edition, a hint of peat follows, which spreads pleasantly along with sweet notes of honey and pancakes.
Palate: Energetic and deep. The fruity notes from the nose are complemented by fresh lemon zest. A complex, rich malt flavor maintains balance for a few seconds.
Finish: A full-bodied sweetness and pleasant bitterness remain on the palate.
Description
Two distilleries, three cask warehouses, one brand: Mars distills high-quality single and blended malts – and plays with the influences of three different climatic zones in Japan. A combination that enables Mars to continually produce new whiskies that surprise with their complexity.
The Mars Tsunuki – 2023 Edition comes entirely from the Tsunuki distillery. Opened in 2016 in the subtropical south of the country, where temperatures reach up to 36°C, the facility was initially used primarily for aging. Tsunuki bottlings are therefore rare. This sought-after new release matured for around six years in bourbon barrels and, at 50% ABV, balances jam, honey, subtle smoke, and citrus notes.
