Inspired by the adventure stories of the historical "Journal des romans populaires illustrés", we report in a new series on the experiences that Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados and Rhum have to offer: excitement, surprise, variety and great enjoyment.

With outstanding single casks, we publicize the potential of distilled delicacies from France and the French overseas departments. The first pages of our Journal des Kirsch are filled with an Armagnac and two Cognacs.

The Armagnac Ténarèze - Lous Mouracs 1996 comes from the Domaine Mouracs. Its name, which means "wetland" in the Gascon language, is due to its special location in the Ténarèze growing region. The cultivation of grapes on the small estate is a thing of the past. Armagnacs like this 27-year-old single cask from L'Encantada become precious souvenirs.

The name Jean-Luc Pasquet stands not only for the finest, organically certified brandies, but also for fine vintage cognacs. The best example: the Cognac Petite Champagne Lot. 79. Distilled 100% from Petite Champagne grapes and bottled at a strong 52.2% vol. cask strength, it is, in Serge Valentin's words, "[...] just perfect" - and worth an impressive 92 points.

Even older and awarded 93 points on whiskyfun.com is the Cognac Petite Champagne Lot. 58. The single cask was in the care of the traditional house Vallein Tercinier for 65 years. Result: “[…] this goes down to the core of fresh old cognac, this time with stunning pears poached in Sauternes (not a 1960!) plus extraordinary morello cherries, almond liqueur and, hold on, kirschwasser?”
