Palate: Rich, smoky and smooth. Candied orange slices and chunks of crystallized ginger dipped in dark chocolate. Muscovado sugar syrup provides a sticky, dark drizzle over ginger cake with dates against a background of sweet peat smoke and dried autumn fruits.
Finish: Syrupy toffee and smoky black tea, sweetened with dark brown sugar. Long, sweet, full and smoky-spicy finish.
The new Core Range from Elements of Islay
For Elements of Islay, the Elixir Distillers select whiskies from all active and partially inactive Islay distilleries. The bottlers compose their delicious elemental particles from barrels of different ages and sometimes from different distilleries. The aim: to depict the full range of island malt whiskies with their medicinal, peaty and maritime character.
For lasting enjoyment, the Islay periodic table is growing: from now on, the limited small batch bottlings in apothecary bottles will be joined by standard bottlings – in 700ml bottles.
The newly created core range consists of a blended malt trio. The Elements of Islay Cask Edit of refill, bourbon and sherry casks combines intense, smoky single malt from the south coast of Islay with a fresher, fruitier style from the north. The Elements of Islay Bourbon Cask matures in first-fill and refill bourbon casks and, at 54.5% ABV, combines classic, strong BBQ smoke from an Islay distillery on the south coast with more subtle, spicy aromas from the north coast.
The Elements of Islay Sherry Cask is also bottled more strongly. In first fill and refill sherry butts and hogsheads, Islay single malt from the south coast is combined with aromas of dried fruit and dark chocolate and Islay single malt from the north coast with spicy, maritime notes and lemon oil.
Tasting Notes
Nose: The scent of tobacco in an empty sandalwood cigar box. Added to this is the maritime-smoky aroma of smoked fish (Arbroath smokie), aromatic notes of lemon oil, ginger root and a hint of menthol.Palate: Rich, smoky and smooth.
