Description

For around 125 years, Gordon & MacPhail has been one of the finest addresses for iconic whiskies. In its Recollection Series, the family-run bottler brings together treasures from closed or long-dormant distilleries. The third round of rarities brings the character of Convalmore, North Port, Glenlochy, and Port Ellen, among others, to life – each at cask strength.

The whiskies offer a rare opportunity to enjoy lost masterpieces. They revive the spirit of a bygone era, as does the art of Emmy-winning illustrator Bruno Mangyoku, which adorns the labels and boxes of the six bottlings.
The Convalmore Distillery buildings still stand, but without any production facilities. Single malts from one of the famous seven distilleries in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, were rarely bottled. It has been mothballed since 1985. Shortly before, a piece of liquid history was distilled with the Convalmore 1984/2024.

This also applies to the North Port Brechin 1981/2024 from the distillery, which closed in 1983 and was demolished in 1994. Founded as the Brechin Distillery and later renamed North Port, it was located on Scotland's east coast and distilled a single malt that, according to whisky author Michael Jackson, was "dry and fruity."

Glenlochy was founded in 1898 on the new West Highland Railway, making it well-positioned to transport whisky to Glasgow. The majority of the whisky was intended for blends. Single malts like the Glenlochy 1979/2024 were, and continue to be, extremely rare. The distillery closed in 1983 and was converted into a hotel.
