Signatory emphasizes the full-bodied, oily character of the Craigellachie distillates with triple maturation: In addition to casks previously filled with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry, the 2014/2025 Craigellachie matured in Dechar/Rechar hogsheads. For the latter type of cask, the charcoal layer in the cask is first removed before being re-burned, thus rejuvenating the cask. The effect? Ten intensive years of maturation.
The smooth Glenlossie 2012/2025 spent its twelve years maturing in both first-fill Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon hogsheads. This Speyside single malt is used almost exclusively for blends by owner Diageo. Bottlings like the 100 Proof Edition #35 are therefore the exception. Connoisseurs will discover floral and malty notes alongside notes of almonds, vanilla, and dried apricots.
Description
The 100 Proof Edition has successfully filled a gap in the Signatory range since last year. The single malts in the series are bottled at 57.1% ABV, the minimum alcohol content at which alcohol-soaked gunpowder can be ignited. What also ignites: high alcohol content meets low prices.
