The distillery is still quite young. It was built in 1971 by John Haig & Co. It was closed between 1985 and 1989. Mannochmore has only been available as a single malt since 1992. The black Loch Dhu was added in 1996, production of which has since ceased and, despite its unusual taste, is becoming a sought-after collector's item. After being closed again from 1995 to 1997, the distillery currently only produces in winter. Then it is run by the workers of the Glenlossie distillery, which is located on the same site and only produces in summer. The distillery belongs to the Diageo Group. The water for the distillery, which is part of the Speyside region, comes from the Bardon Burn, a tributary of the Spey River. The non-smoky malt used is obtained from Burghead Maltings in Elgin. The distillery has a mash tun of 12 tonnes, eight wash backs of 54,000 litres each, three wash stills of 14,400 litres each and three spirit stills of 17,000 litres each. All stills are steam-powered. The annual capacity is 3.2 million litres. The distillery does not have a visitor center and is not open to the public.
