The operator was the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd. Between 1910 and 1923, the distillery was closed with a brief interruption in 1912. In 1920, Glen Moray was taken over by Macdonald & Muir Ltd., who had already bought Glenmorangie two years earlier. During a major renovation in 1958, the floor maltings were replaced by a Saladin Box, among other things. The maltings were finally abandoned in 1978. In 1979, the stills were expanded from two to four, and in 1992 the two older stills were replaced by new ones. In 1996, Macdonald & Muir renamed themselves Glenmorangie plc. and were taken over by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in October 2004. Glen Moray was sold to La Martiniquaise in September 2008. During 2014, the distillery was expanded by two stills, and in 2015 a further ten stills were installed. A new visitor center opened on July 6, 2004. Wood finishes were essentially invented at Glen Moray, as this is where Macdonald & Muir began their experiments. The concept was later implemented at Glenmorangie. The distillery gets its water from the River Lossie. The malt comes from external malt houses (Pauls and Simspon's). After expansion in 2013, the distillery now has a mash tun (7.5 tonnes) made of stainless steel and ten fermentation tuns (wash backs) (39,600 l each), also made of stainless steel.
