Palate: . Aftertaste: Conclusion: Origin Auchentoshan, from the Gaelic Achadh an Oisein, means "field of the corner". The distillery is located north-west of Glasgow in the Dalmuirim district of West Dunbartonshire. The distillery was founded around 1800 by John Bulloch as Duntocher Distillery, but after bankruptcy his son Archibald Bulloch took over the distillery in 1822. But he too had to declare bankruptcy in 1826. This distillery may have become today's Auchentoshan Distillery in 1823. In 1834 the distillery was sold to John Hart and Alexander Filshie. After renovation (1875) there were further changes of ownership. In March 1941 the distillery was partially destroyed in a German air raid and was not rebuilt until after the Second World War. After further sales the distillery was sold to Morrison Bowmore in 1984 and finally to Beam Suntory in 1994. Today it is one of the few operating distilleries in the Central Lowlands. The distillery's water comes from the Kilpatrick Hills. The malt used is only very lightly peated. The distillery operates a triple distillation process, which is unusual for Scotland and is otherwise more common in Ireland. The alcohol content of the new makes is therefore relatively high - around 80 to 82%.
