Description
Distillery Manager Koki Takehira creates balanced, smooth and very complex whiskies that are strongly reminiscent of their Scottish relatives. The Mars Shinshu distillery uses various types of grain for its spirits - from unpeated to very heavily peated. The current range mainly includes younger single and blended malts. This is no coincidence: From 1992 to 2011, the distillery's pot stills were empty due to the whisky crisis in Japan. When the whisky market recovered, production resumed - and has been constantly surprising people with diverse whisky creations ever since - including the Mars "Kasei":“Kasei” – Japanese for “Mars” – is a blend of Japanese malt and grain whisky.
