Description

With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has grown to include an independent, family-run farm distillery. The former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, is not the only one responsible for the distinctive style of their single malt. As one of only a few whisky distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses only barley grown on its own farm and distills and matures its whisky on site.

With the Lochlea Harvest Edition (Second Crop), the "Seasonal Releases" 2023 are growing by a new bottling. The series includes limited seasonal bottlings. Each of them shows Lochlea Single Malt in a different light. And: what happens on the farm as the seasons change. The Harvest Edition is inspired by the busy harvest time, when the barley for the following year's whisky is brought in under summer sunsets.

This year's Harvest Edition offers delicious variety, made from port wine barrels, STR barriques, whose inner wood layer was thinly removed before they were toasted and finally re-burnt on the surface (STR = "scraped" or "shaved", "toasted", "recharred"), and first-fill bourbon barrels. The much higher proportion of port wine barrels enhances the creaminess of the whisky. At the same time, the STR barriques add a wonderfully peppery spiciness.
