Tasting Notes

Nose: Lush and distinctive with aromas of pralines, roasted nuts, golden syrup and candied fruit peel.

Palate: Sweet layers of maple pecan cake, sultanas, milk chocolate and heather honey with nutmeg and oak spices.

Finish: Warming notes of apple strudel and custard tarts that lead to lingering sweet spices and espresso.

Description

After 180 years in the whisky waiting list, Glencadam made the step from the blending industry to the stage of the original bottlers. But rather quietly. Their "East Highlands" single malt made from unpeated barley malt is still considered an insider tip today. The whiskies, which are up to 35 years old and neither colored nor chill-filtered, are produced in two copper pot stills, just like in the early days of the small distillery. Due to their construction, they produce a delicate and soft spirit. This is because the lyne arms run upwards at an angle of 15 degrees, not downwards.

The Glencadam Distillery always comes up with surprises when it comes to maturing its distillate. For the new limited release, for example, the Glencadam 15 yo Reserva de Jerez, the Highlanders matured their single malt, which was matured in bourbon barrels, in Andalusian sherry barrels. Previously, these contained Oloroso sherry. Its nutty, dark fruit aromas give the whisky depth and complexity - with inviting notes such as roasted nuts, milk chocolate or apple strudel.
