Description
Curious & complex:
FRC dedicates an Australian special edition to the platypus
Ah, a bipolar beaver? An alienated duck, perhaps? Or perhaps an otter gone astray? No, this living fossil is a bit of everything and therefore completely unique: a platypus! The embodiment of a biological curiosity belongs to the class of mammals, but still lays eggs. Okay... This stubborn little creature with paddle feet, fur, and a beak follows this idiosyncratic practice exclusively in eastern and southeastern Australia.
Exciting, rare, complex, and unforgettable – these are qualities that the independent bottler FRC is also well versed in. Following the Quokka Edition, a liquid homage to the lively marsupial, FRC is now dedicating its own rum to the next Australian animal species, the platypus.
For the Platypus Edition 7 yo, the North German distillery once again collaborated with Australia's oldest registered distillery. Beenleigh Artisan Distillers distilled the small-batch molasses rum in both column and pot stills and aged it for five years in bourbon casks under the Australian sun. For the complex crowning touch, this limited-edition experience was refined for two years on the European continent in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
