In the heart of South Africa, nestled between the majestic Kruger National Park and the timeless Barberton Makhonjwa Mountains, Robert Greaves, a talented mechanical engineer, discovered his passion for rum making. At the historic Mhoba Sugar Estate, a family business since the 1980s, cultivated in the unique tropical climate, Greaves has dedicated himself to the art of distilling exquisite rum from the indigenous Nkomazi sugar cane variety for over a decade.
In his artisanal distillery, equipped with specially made equipment, Greaves creates an exceptional Agricole-style rum using the traditional pot still method. This single estate rum, comparable to the renowned single malt whisky, is characterized by its naturalness - without artificial coloring, flavoring or added sugar.
The outstanding Mhoba Rum 2019/2023, carefully selected by Kirsch Import, represents a single cask wonder, matured in an American Oak Bourbon Barrel that was previously refined with Woodford Reserve Whiskey. With an impressive cask strength of 63.5% vol., this cane rum unfolds a complex flavor profile of corn, salted caramel, butter as well as floral, fruity and spicy nuances that merge into an unforgettable exotic pleasure experience.
