Tasting Notes

Nose: Multifaceted. Delicate notes of yellow fruits, reminiscent of airy apricot mousse, meet dried orange peel, tobacco and old wood. Added to this are honey, subtle herbs and a hint of lavender - like a scented journey through the nature of Sainte-Lheurine.

Palate: The opening is characterized by fresh orange peel, which turns into juicy, ripe mangos. The impressive minerality is reminiscent of a clear mountain river or a fine Burgundy white wine. Semi-dry and lively, nuances of stone fruit such as vineyard peach unfold, accompanied by forest honey and fine spices. The distinctive limestone note of the terroir gives the cognac a captivating depth and balance.

Finish: Long, complex and entertaining. The minerality remains present and leaves a fresh and lasting memory of the origin of this exceptional wine.

Description

“A sublime cognac”:
Journal des Kirsch leads to Sainte-Lheurine in 1945

Anyone who opens a single cask from our Journal des Kirsch series will be taken on a fluid tale from France full of excitement, surprise, delight and variety. For the latest story, we take lovers to an idyllic village in the heart of Petite Champagne.

In the calcareous terroir of Sainte-Lheurine, grapes characterized by freshness and minerality thrive. During the harvest season of the world-shattering year of 1945, these grapes formed the basis for an experience that is rare even among connoisseurs - and was worth an impressive 92 points to gourmet Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com.

The Mauxion Sélection – Sainte-Lheurine Lot 45 rested for decades in the cellars of a small, long-established cognac family. In the unusually humid microclimate of these cellars, some of which are sunk deep into the ground, it was not only able to mature slowly, but also to develop a rare aroma and texture.

The treasure was discovered and recovered by Mauxion. With the Mauxion Sélection, the traditional house captures the unadulterated essences of times gone by for enthusiasts. The Sainte-Lheurine Lot 45 was also preserved in its original purity as a single cask. Bottled at 55.3% ABV in just 144 bottles, the Cognac Petite Champagne is a true gem for collectors and connoisseurs.

“...a stunning praline of dried fruits, orange blossom, and, dare I say, panettone—it's panettone season, after all! [...] A sublime and tightly woven Cognac, holding steady even after 80 years.”
