Founded in 2019, the Holyrood Distillery is bringing single malt production back to Edinburgh after more than 100 years. Inspired but not dictated by the past, the craft distillery combines traditional craftsmanship with bold, new ideas - for example by experimenting with malt varieties, fermentation and special barrels , based on Edinburgh's rich brewing heritage. The distillery's "New Makes" are no longer the only thing that shows how the spirit of research affects whisky.

Embra is Holyrood's second release. The single malt will appeal to peatheads - and is also the answer for anyone who hasn't yet tried peat whisky .

While it captures the classic, bold smoky flavours and textures, it is balanced by chocolate, biscuits and bright fruits, making it particularly accessible to new whisky drinkers.

Embra was distilled from 56 percent peat malt and triple matured in a combination of first fill bourbon barrels, Islay quarter casks and new American oak barrels .

Named after a colloquial term for Edinburgh, Embra features an illustrative design inspired by images of Saint Leonard . Not only is Holyrood located on St. Leonard's Lane in Edinburgh's Southside, St. Leonard was also the patron saint of coopers .

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Lemon peel, horse chestnut, with hints of peppermint and light hickory smoke.

Palate: Wafer biscuits, dark chocolate mousse and notes of earthy Highland peat smoke.

Aftertaste: Pear compote with a round, clean finish.
