Tasting Notes

Nose: Sun-ripened fruits such as delicate mandarin, juicy peach and banana are first to appear. Notes of sea air are reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean surrounding the island. Vanilla and soft white smoke provide sweetness and complexity.

Palate: Tropical fruits give a dense aroma. At 15 ppm we can feel the delicate peaty smoke that fills the palate with a remarkable persistence. The mineral notes act as a pleasant saltiness and make the palate almost watery.

Finish: A very balanced and rich oily taste that lingers for a long time.

Description

Two distilleries, three barrel warehouses, one brand: Mars distills high-quality single and blended malts – and plays with the influences of three different climate zones in Japan. A combination that enables Mars to continually produce new whiskies that surprise with their complexity.

Mars The YA #1 was the first to combine all three Mars locations in one whisky. The new Mars The YA #2 does the same, but as a peated version. The blended malt combines smoky single malts from the Shinshu and Tsunuki distilleries and was matured on the tropical island of Yakushima (YA = Yakushima Aging). The result? An experience like the island itself, made of sun-ripened fruit, sea air and soft smoke.
