The Legendary Silkie Red is now the third product in the Silkie Irish Whiskey Collection, produced by the Sliabh Liag Distillery. Silkie Red is a tribute to the famous Donegal nobleman, Red Hugh O'Donnell. He left Donegal for Spain in 1602 to ask King Philip for help in returning Ireland. Before he could do so, Red Hugh died in Simancas near the Spanish wine region of Ribera del Duero. Wines from the Ribera region are generally full-bodied with firm tannins, while Rioja wines stand out with big fruit flavors.

After triple distillation, 55% of the Silkie Red Blend was finished for 4 months in Ribero del Duero casks and 45% of the blend was finished for 5 months in Rioja casks. This different wine cask finish combination gives the whisky its exceptional depth of character
