On the second horseman's horse, the Ballechin 2013/2023 races into a new chapter of the epic. The mystical label, permeated with clouds of fog, created by Tom Thiel, whose masterpieces are emblazoned on the CD covers of the melodic death metal titans "Amon Amarth" or our own Vikings series, promises: A veil of smoke will envelop us.
This single malt, neither coloured nor chill-filtered in its purity, comes from the roughest part of the Edradour Distillery. After a decade of maturation, it was made from the precious first fill Oloroso sherry butts.
The Aberlour 2012/2023, matured for another year in the same legendary casks, appears as Archangel No.2 . Against the deep dark background of the whisky, the Archangel Uriel illuminates the palate with light-flooded flavor nuances. At the same time, it evokes memories of the tragic history of the Speyside distillery, which was ravaged by an all-consuming fire in 1898.
However, this drop does not promise fiery spiciness, but rather a symphonic mélange of fruit, nut and spice.
