Description

The Isle of Raasay Hebridean Distillers are the first to legally distill whisky on the small Isle of Raasay. And: The single malt from the pioneering distillery is matured in a cask composition that is new to Scotland. The recipe "Na Sia" (Gaelic for "the six") combines peated and unpeated raw spirits, which are matured separately in three types of casks: First Fill Rye Whiskey Casks, Virgin Chinkapin Oak Casks and First Fill Bordeaux Red Wine Casks.

With the Na-Sia series, Raasay makes the six components of the recipe available as cask-strength single casks every two years - the unpeated casks in the first half of the year, the peated casks in the second half. For whisky fans? A rare chance to see how the Hebridean malt continues to develop.
For the Peated Chinkapin Oak Single Cask, the specially made barrels made from the North American oak species are freshly charred and roasted. This treatment gives the single malt a rich color early on and a strong aroma characterized by sweet toffee, dark fruits and ginger, which combines with lingering notes of wood smoke.
