In Forres, on the north-west coast of Speyside, a small team of passionate distillers has been reviving a lost style of Speyside single malts since 1998: voluminous and with a hint of smoke. To achieve this, Benromach uses Highland Peat, as well as Distillers' and Brewers' Yeast, very long fermentation times and exclusively first fill casks that are stored in traditional Dunnage warehouses. And: real handcraft.
It is usually only produced once a year: The Benromach 40 yo matures exclusively in sherry casks and is bottled at cask strength. Anyone who manages to get their hands on one of the 1,098 bottles will be rewarded with apple and festive spices, citrus fruit and a hint of beeswax polish.
