Nose: Fresh and citrusy when just poured, but with time it develops into a deeper, complex whisky, with a distinct citrus character to balance the notes of dry sultanas and chocolate.
Palate: Luxurious and lush, beautifully balanced. The character from the full maturation in the Amontillado casks and the citrus flavours combine to create a whisky with a full, warm quality of dried fruit, probably from the casks, and in the background the characteristic spice and a pleasant bitter note that increases the complexity.
Finish: Medium long and lush with an elegant and pleasant sweetness.
The Millstone 2020/2024 was given four years of full maturation in the lush casks. The effect: The single malt seems many times older. After a fresh start with citrus notes, the Dutchman unfolds a full-bodied warmth with the elegant sweetness of sultanas and chocolate as well as a pleasant, complex bitter note.
The origins of Zuidam Distillers also lie with the forefather of gin: Patrick van Zuidam's father started the distilling business with genever. Today the company presents the juniper spirit in all its variety. The Oude Genever 5 yo is a limited special bottling from Oloroso Sherry Casks that combines chocolate-covered raisins with the freshness of lemons and honey.
