Tasting Notes:

Nose: Inviting aromas of sandalwood and a warm scented candle with hints of sun-ripened peaches, juicy mangoes and fresh red berries.

Finish : Long-lasting and tropical, with exotic fruits.

On the path that wound through the majestic vines, he called his faithful companion with an authoritative gesture - "XO!" Christophe Fillioux was a living legend, the fifth generation to lead the traditional Jean Fillioux house with heart, soul, beard and charismatic glasses. The picturesque estate of La Pouyade had been in the firm grip of the family since 1894 and has remained proud and independent to this day. Here, surrounded by 25 hectares of first-class, sustainably grown white wine grapes, the magic of winemaking came to life.

The estate was located in the heart of the Grande Champagne, in the "Golden Triangle" of the Charente, the holy land of the best wine growing. Christophe, a connoisseur of stature, was a master at conjuring up the best from these grapes - extremely aromatic cognacs that were appreciated by connoisseurs all over the world.

In 2021, we had the rare pleasure of standing side by side with Sebastian Jäger from the Wu Dram Clan and experiencing the artistry of the House of Fillioux up close. Together we were able to bottle and hold the breathtaking jewel, the 1955 Cognac Fillioux, in our hands. But in the spring, another treasure chest was revealed to us, a time capsule in a class of its own: a family heirloom dating from 1960-1965 and enchanting with a unique tropical exoticism. Carefully guarded for generations, it rested together in an old barrel, ready to reveal its secrets.

The Cognac Grande Champagne, left at its natural cask strength, was bottled in just 330 bottles. Those lucky enough to get their hands on this rarity were greeted by a veritable firework of aromas. Sandalwood, juicy peaches, ripe mangos and bright red berries danced in the glass, promising a treat that would live long in the memory. On the palate, a veritable explosion of intense mango and sweet peach unfolded, lingering in a lingering crescendo of the senses. This was a Cognac that had stood the test of time and an unforgettable experience for those lucky enough to taste it.
