Tasting Notes

Nose: Intense and lush. The first nose reveals notes of ylang-ylang, clove, artichoke, roasted walnut, blood orange, apricot kernel and cocktail cherry. As time goes on, almonds settle on the surface of the aromatic palette. As time goes on, sandpaper, camphor, sultanas, dates and a fine coffee liqueur bring the palate back to Andalusia.

Palate: Lively and powerful. Cane sugar, chestnut honey and scents of tropical flowers dominate the palate. In the middle of the palate, vanilla pods and cocoa beans envelop the taste buds with their subtle tannins. The aftertaste is camphorous and fragrant (geranium).

Finish: Long and powerful. Aromas of cane sugar permeate the finish, which is enlivened by coconut milk and honeysuckle as well as varnish and mustard seed notes. The aftertaste reveals notes of light tobacco, linden blossom, peppery rose and coriander. Aromas of walnuts, dried grapes and dried straw in the empty glass are reminiscent of southern Spain.

Description

Hampden Estate has been distilling rum for nearly three centuries in Jamaica's Trelawny region, the historic "Grand Cru" of Jamaican rum. The distillery's heavy pot still rums are produced using unique methods - and are celebrated worldwide for their remarkably full-bodied flavors. Named after the Spanish word that describes vineyards in the Jerez region, Pagos is the first Hampden Estate rums to be bottled to mature entirely in sherry casks.

The butts used to mature the Hampden Estate Pagos 2023 come from the famous Bodegas Fundador. Used in the Solera system, the 500-litre barrels contained Oloroso sherry for up to 30 years before being refilled in Jamaica. Hampden's "High Ester" rum creates a perfect synergy with the Andalusian aromas. Notes of roasted walnut, cocktail cherries and dates, cane sugar, flowers and cocoa beans as well as varnish and coriander unfold at 52% vol. to create a generous, exotic experience.
